Taking a classic to the next level is easy when you have dogs, bacon, and an air fryer on hand: enter air fryer bacon-wrapped hot dogs!
We like these bacon-wrapped hot dogs because they’re simple enough to make – with no grill required – and you can top them just how you (and your guests) like. They are a fun twist for a quick meal when having people over for a casual hangout.
We usually add classic condiments like relish, mustard, red onion, ketchup, and sauerkraut, but there are lots of different options.
Ingredients
- Hot dogs – Use hot dogs that are on the larger side.
- Bacon – Regular cut bacon; don’t use thick-cut bacon because it will take too long to cook.
- Toppings and Buns – Optional. We like to use red onions, sauerkraut, and/or relish as well as mustard and sometimes ketchup. Use whatever toppings you prefer.
Recipe Tips
- We recommend using larger hot dogs so that the cooking time between the dogs and bacon is more even. If the hot dogs are quite small and thin, they’ll get too dark before the bacon is cooked.
- Don’t overlap the bacon when wrapping it around the hot dogs, or the bacon underneath will be undercooked.
- We like to use toothpicks at the end to secure the bacon to the hot dogs so that it doesn’t unravel during air frying. This step is optional, but recommended.
- The ends of the hot dogs may get quite dark if they aren’t covered in bacon (but they should not be burned!). This is normal for this recipe since the cooking times for the hot dogs and bacon don’t align perfectly. To reduce this issue, you can wrap the bacon as close to the ends of the hot dogs as possible.

Step-by-Step Instructions
First, lightly score the hot dogs with a knife and set them aside.
Next, wrap a hot dog in a strip of bacon, starting on one end. Try not to overlap the bacon as you wrap it around the hot dog.
You can secure the ends with toothpicks so the bacon doesn’t unravel during cooking. Repeat this with the rest of the hot dogs.
Preheat the air fryer to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees Celsius). Then add the hot dogs and air fry for 8-10 minutes, or until the hot dogs are heated and the bacon is cooked.
Flip the hot dog halfway through the cooking time.
The exact cooking time can vary depending on the size of the hot dogs, thickness of the bacon, your air fryer, and personal preference.
When the bacon-wrapped hot dogs are done, remove them from the air fryer, remove the toothpicks, and enjoy them on a bun with toppings of your choice or with a dip on the side.
We like classic condiments like relish, mustard, red onion, sauerkraut, and ketchup. Enjoy!
Storage Tips
Bacon-wrapped hot dogs taste best hot and fresh out of the air fryer, but you can store leftovers in a sealed container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Keep in mind that the bacon will lose its crispiness.
You can reheat them in the air fryer at a lower temperature, such as 320 degrees Fahrenheit, to bring some of the crispiness back, but keep an eye on them because you don’t want them to get too dark.
The microwave works for reheating in a pinch, but they’ll end up slightly soft and sad.
