These chicken souvlaki skewers are very easy to make in the air fryer and a quick way to bring Mediterranean flavor to your table.
You just need some oil, lemon juice, dried oregano and a few other ingredients to make a simple marinade. The souvlakia come out flavorful and browned on the outside while remaining juicy on the inside.
We like them because they are easy to prep and you don’t need to fire up the grill to make a batch for dinner. We often eat them with tzatziki, Greek salad, and rice or lemon potatoes.
Ingredients
- Chicken breasts – Boneless, skinless chicken breasts.
- Olive oil – It adds some extra flavor, but you can also use avocado or canola oil if you prefer.
- Lemon juice – Preferably freshly squeezed lemon juice for the best flavor.
- Dried oregano – Adds flavor so please don’t skip it.
- Garlic clove – Use freshly minced garlic for the best flavor. Avoid store-bought pre-minced garlic for this recipe. If you don’t have fresh garlic, you can use garlic powder but we recommend fresh garlic.
- Salt – Enhances the overall flavor. Adjust the amount to taste.
- Black pepper – Adds a hint of spice. Also adjust to taste.
Recipe Tips
- Cut the chicken breasts into even pieces so they are done cooking at the same time.
- Check that the wooden skewers fit in your air fryer before adding the chicken. If they don’t, trim to size.
- We recommend marinating the chicken in the fridge for at least 30 minutes up to several hours.
- You can soak the wooden skewers in water to help prevent them from burning in the air fryer, but this isn’t usually an issue for us.
- Don’t overcrowd the air fryer so the chicken souvlakia can cook and brown evenly.

Step by Step Instructions
First, add the oil, lemon juice, dried oregano, minced garlic, salt, and black pepper to a large mixing bowl and whisk.
Cut the chicken breasts into 1-inch pieces (about 2.5 cm).
Add the chicken to the bowl and stir well. Then cover the bowl and place it in the fridge for at least 30 minutes.
Check to make sure that the wooden skewers fit in your air fryer. Trim if needed. Optionally soak them in water, then thread the chicken pieces onto them.
Preheat the air fryer to 375 degrees Fahrenheit (190 degrees Celsius).
Then place the chicken skewers in the air fryer basket in one layer with space between. You may have to cook in batches.
Air fry for 8-11 minutes total, flipping halfway through the cooking time. The chicken should reach an internal temperature of 165 degrees Fahrenheit (74 degrees Celsius).
When they are done, remove the chicken souvlakia and serve them with tzatziki and sides of choice like Greek Salad, rice, or lemon potatoes.
Storage Tips
These chicken skewers store and reheat really nicely. Store leftovers in a sealed container or wrapped in foil in the fridge for up to 3-4 days.
You can reheat them in the air fryer at a lower temperature, such as 325 degrees Fahrenheit, for just a few minutes until the chicken is heated through without drying it out.
