These cinnamon-sugar puff pastry twists are an easy sweet treat that you can whip together in no time at all.
Made with frozen puff pastry, ground cinnamon, sugar, and a little milk (or butter), these twists are flaky, crispy, and great served warm with a tea or coffee!
We love that they don’t take a lot of effort to make and that the sugar gets slightly caramelized in the air fryer.
Ingredients
- Puff pastry – The puff pastry should be fully thawed; we prefer using a sheet of puff pastry over a block since it doesn’t need to be rolled out.
- Granulated sugar – You can also use light or dark brown sugar if you prefer.
- Ground cinnamon – Adds extra flavor.
- Milk (or butter) – To help the cinnamon-sugar stick to the puff pastry. Milk is easier since it doesn’t have to be melted, but melted butter is a delicious option as well.
Recipe Tips
- The puff pastry should be thawed but cold. If it gets too warm, it’ll get sticky and harder to work with.
- You can use butter to get the cinnamon and sugar to stick, but milk works just fine, too.
- You can leave the puff pastry in long twists full length (10 inches long), but we find they can cook strangely in the air fryer and take a tad longer. That’s why we recommend cutting them in half before air frying.
- Give the twists enough space in the air fryer; they will expand. We cook 5 and 5 in our air fryer, which is almost square and 6.5 quarts large.
- Don’t overcook the puff pastry, or it may dry out.
- The cooked puff pastry twists will harden slightly as they cool. In our opinion, they taste best fresh.

Step-by-Step Instructions
Lightly sprinkle your work surface with flour. Then roll out the puff pastry to 10×10 inches (25×25 cm) and brush the top with milk or melted butter.
Combine the sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl, then sprinkle it over the puff pastry.
Cut the puff pastry in half. Then cut these halves into strips, about 1 inch (2.5 cm) thick.
Take two strips and twist them around each other with the cinnamon-sugar sides facing each other.
You can also twist them with the cinnamon-sugar sides facing outward (it is messier, but tastes delicious once air-fried).
Preheat air fryer to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees Celsius).
When it’s hot, place some of the twists in the air fryer basket with space between them.
Air fry for 8-10 minutes, or until puffed and golden brown. Then remove them from the air fryer and cook the second batch.
Enjoy the puff pastry twists while they are fresh with coffee or tea!
Storage Tips
These puff pastry twists are best enjoyed fresh out of the air fryer. Any leftovers can be stored in a sealed container or bag at room temperature for one to two days.
You can pop them back in the air fryer for 30-60 seconds to warm them – just be sure not to cook them again.
