Sweet, flaky, and easy to make, these air fryer puff pastry hearts are the perfect homemade treat for Valentine’s Day or whenever you’re craving a sweet snack.

These hearts are inspired by the classic French pastry Palmiers and are made with a simple mix of cinnamon and sugar.

One twist is that we like to drizzle the hearts with a simple icing or melted chocolate before serving for some extra sweetness.

Ingredients

ingredients in bowls on counter with labels.

To make these cinnamon sugar puff pastry hearts, here are the ingredients you will need:

  • Puff pastry – Thawed; using a sheet of puff pastry is easier than a block that has to be rolled out.
  • Granulated sugar – We like to use regular granulated sugar, but you can also make it with light or dark brown sugar if you prefer.
  • Ground cinnamon – You can make it without cinnamon, but we recommend adding it for extra flavor.
  • Milk – For brushing; feel free to skip if you don’t have any milk on hand.
  • Melted chocolate – Optional for garnish.
  • Icing sugar – Optional for garnish.

Recipe Tips

  • The puff pastry should be thawed but still cool. If it gets too warm and sticky, it becomes hard to work with.
  • Use a sharp knife when cutting the hearts, otherwise you may press down too much and the layers will not stay intact as nicely.
  • Avoid overcrowding the air fryer so the puff pastry can puff and brown evenly.
  • Don’t overcook the puff pastry because it can dry out and harden as it cools if cooked too long.
  • Allow the hearts to cool slightly before drizzling with melted chocolate or icing.

Storage Tips

We strongly recommend eating these puff pastry hearts the day they were made since they are so much better fresh.

If you have leftovers, you can store them in a sealed container at room temperature for one day.

They’ll still be okay the next day – but will notice that they are getting stale. You can try to reheat them in the air fryer for a minute or two, but don’t expect miracles.
