Air fryer frozen okra is an easy green side dish that goes well with lots of different meals. These tasty seed pods turn out slightly crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and full of flavor.

Even though okra isn’t technically a vegetable, it’s often utilized as one. Making it in the air fryer is great since you don’t usually end up with the slightly slimy texture that some people dislike.

Recipe Tips

  • There’s no need to thaw the frozen okra first.
  • We make unbreaded okra in this recipe. You can also use breaded okra, but the cook time may vary slightly!
  • You can change up the seasoning blend for your okra. We like garlic powder, but you can also try smoked paprika, cayenne pepper, Cajun seasoning, or chili flakes for a hint of spice.
  • Don’t overcrowd the air fryer so the okra can cook evenly.
  • The exact cooking time will vary depending on the size of the okra pieces, your air fryer, and personal preference.
  • Frozen okra doesn’t get super crispy, but you can definitely get some crisp edges.

Step-by-Step Instructions

First, preheat the air fryer to 380 degrees Fahrenheit (195 degrees Celsius).

Meanwhile, add the frozen okra to a mixing bowl along with the oil, salt, garlic powder (optional), and black pepper. Toss to coat.

Once the air fryer is preheated, place the frozen okra into the air fryer basket in one even layer. If this amount of okra is too much for your air fryer, consider making less or cooking in batches.

Air fry the frozen okra for 12-15 minutes, or until fully cooked and slightly crispy. Shake the air fryer basket every 4-5 minutes to help with even cooking.

When it’s done, remove the okra from the air fryer and serve it right away as a side dish.

Storage Tips

You can store leftover okra in a container in the fridge for about 2 days. It will get softer from the moisture over time.

You can reheat it in the microwave or the air fryer.
