Did you know that you can make granola in the air fryer? It’s actually quite easy to do and you can customize it to suit your taste.

Our recipe for maple cinnamon granola is perfect for the fall and is packed with oats, cinnamon, walnuts, and delicious maple syrup.

We love it because it’s a recipe that works for breakfast or a snack with your favorite milk or yogurt, or on a dessert such as ice cream or apple slices. It’s also cheaper and better than store-bought (in our opinion).

Ingredients

ingredients to make air fryer granola on counter in bowls with labels.
  • Large flake oats – Larger oats work better for this recipe, but you can make this recipe with regular oats, too. Just be sure to use rolled oats, steel-cut oats will be too hard.
  • Walnuts – Use raw walnuts (not roasted ones).
  • Shredded coconut – Optional, but a nice addition. We like to use unsweetened shredded coconut so we can better control the sugar, but you can use sweetened coconut if you prefer.
  • Maple syrup – Use real maple syrup for the best taste.
  • Oil – We use avocado oil, but any neutral-tasting oil will work.
  • Ground cinnamon – For the best taste use ground cinnamon that isn’t too old.
  • Salt – Balances and enhances the overall flavor; you only need a small amount. We use regular table salt.
  • Vanilla extract – Optional for some extra flavor.

Recipe Tips

  • Be sure to use rolled oats for this recipe. Steel-cut oats would be too hard (since we won’t pre-soak or pre-boil them).
  • Don’t overcrowd the air fryer so the granola can crisp and brown evenly.
  • Don’t overcook the granola and keep an eye on it towards the end since it can get too dark quickly. It will crisp and clump when it cools after cooking.
  • Let it cool completely before breaking it up into clusters. That’s how you get the best large clusters.

The granola is done when it is golden brown and starting to darken on the top. It will feel soft when hot, which is normal; don’t overcook it or it will taste burned.

When it’s done, remove the parchment paper with the granola from the air fryer and place it on a cooling rack.

Allow it to cool completely, then break the granola up into larger clusters and enjoy them right away, or place them in an airtight container or mason jar with a lid.

You can enjoy this granola with yogurt, your favorite milk, ice cream, baked apples, and more.

Storage Tips

Place the fully cooled granola in a sealed jar or other airtight container. You can store it in a cool, dry place for about one week. It may lose a little bit of its crunch over time, but will still taste great.
