The ingredients for this recipe.

Here are the honey garlic chicken ingredients that you will need to make this recipe:

  • Chicken breasts – Cut into 1-inch cubes; You can also use boneless, skinless chicken thighs if you prefer.
  • Potato starch – Alternatively, cornstarch also works. Use some for the chicken and some for the sauce.
  • Salt – To enhance the overall flavor; adjust the amount of salt to taste.
  • Garlic powder – Or granulated garlic.
  • Black pepper – To season the chicken.
  • Soy sauce – Adds a savory umami flavor; use low-sodium soy sauce to better control the salt content.
  • Butter – For the sauce.
  • Liquid honey – For the sauce, adds sweetness. Adjust the amount based on preference.
  • Garlic – Use fresh garlic for the best taste; for the sauce.
  • Sweet chili sauce – Adds a sweet and spicy kick to the sauce; adjust to taste.
  • Chicken broth – Or water. Use low-sodium chicken broth if you’re worried about the salt.
  • Sesame seeds, chili flakes, fresh herbs – Optional for serving.

Recipe Tips

  • You can make honey garlic chicken from different chicken parts – boneless, skinless breasts and thighs are good options.
  • Watch the amount of salt you add. If you’re not using low-sodium soy sauce or chicken broth, reduce the amount of extra salt you add and maybe also reduce the amount of broth and soy sauce depending on your preference.
  • Cut the chicken into small pieces of similar size so that they are done cooking at the same time.
  • Don’t overcrowd the air fryer, otherwise the chicken may not cook and crisp evenly.
  • You can serve the honey garlic chicken bites with rice and cooked vegetables for a filling meal.

Storage Tips

If you have leftover chicken, allow it to cool and then store it in a sealed container in the fridge for up to 3 to 4 days.

We recommend reheating it in the microwave (if you have one) since the sauce can make a bit of a mess in an air fryer.

That said, if you want to reheat it in the air fryer, you can place it in an oven-safe container (make sure it fits your air fryer) and reheat the honey garlic chicken at a low temperature such as 280 degrees Fahrenheit.
