Ingredients

To make potatoes and onions in the air fryer, you’ll need:

  • Potatoes – You can use different types of potatoes, but it works really well with russet, white or yukon gold potatoes.
  • Onion – We use a yellow onion but you can also use a sweet onion if preferred.
  • Oil – We use avocado oil, but you can also use canola oil, sunflower oil or vegetable oil.
  • Salt – To add some flavor. Feel free to add more or less to taste.
  • Garlic Powder – To add flavor. If you don’t like garlic, feel free to skip.
  • Italian seasoning or paprika – Choose one or the other, we like both combinations depending on what we serve them with.
  • Black Pepper – For a touch of flavor – add more or less to taste.

Recipe Tips

Before you make these air fryer roasted potatoes and onions, have a read through the recipe tips. It’s not too tough but we definitely learned a few things along the way!

  • It’s important to cut the potatoes into smaller cubes since you don’t want the potatoes to still be hard while the onions are burned. You want everything to cook evenly – so cut the potatoes into small cubes and the onions into slightly thicker rings.
  • If you’re a big onion fan, you can add more than one onion. Just make sure there’s room in your air fryer.
  • We just used a light seasoning for this recipe – and there are actually two ways we like to spice our potatoes: either with paprika or with Italian seasoning. Both offer different flavors so try both if you’re curious.
  • Don’t overcrowd your air fryer as this can prevent the potatoes from cooking evenly. Also make sure to shake the air fryer basket regularly during cooking.

Storage Tips

If you have leftover potatoes and onions you can store them in a sealed container in the fridge. They’ll last for 3 to 4 days.

However, keep in mind that the potatoes can get quite soft in the fridge due to the moisture.

You can revive them if you reheat them in the air fryer but we’d suggest enjoying this combo dish hot and fresh if possible!

    • Hi Rose, you can use sweet potatoes, but keep in mind that they likely won’t get crispy. Also, keep a close eye on them towards the end since you don’t want them to burn – they will likely be done a bit sooner than regular potatoes so the onions might not get crispy but they should be soft. I hope that helps!
