If you want to make the best air fryer garlic bread, this recipe is for you! Slices of French baguette are generously spread with a rich, savory garlic butter mixture.
You can even top your garlic bread with grated cheese such as Parmesan. Whether you like it cheesy or classic, this garlic bread won’t last long once it comes out of the air fryer!
Ingredients
- French baguette – Cut into approximately 1-inch thick slices. Alternatively, you can also use slices of French bread.
- Butter – Softened butter. You can use salted or unsalted butter depending on your preference.
- Garlic cloves – Use fresh garlic cloves without brown spots for the best taste. Avoid pre-minced garlic and garlic powder.
- Italian seasoning – For extra flavor. Alternatively, you can use dried herbs of your choice (e.g. thyme and rosemary) or skip.
- Parmesan cheese – Preferably freshly grated parmigiano reggiano or grana padano, but you can use whatever parmesan you have on hand.
- Salt and pepper – Add to taste for extra flavor.
Recipe Tips
- We like to cut our baguette into thicker slices with some crunch but also a little softness on the inside. Others like thinner slices so that the whole bread is crispy. Try both and see which version you like.
- If you don’t have baguette on hand, you can also use slices of French bread.
- Don’t skimp on the garlic butter when you spread it on the bread – it makes all the difference in flavor. Also, make sure that the butter is spread to the edges for even coverage.
- Garlic can turn brown quickly towards the end, so keep an eye on your bread in the air fryer. You want to avoid burning the garlic or it will taste bitter.
- Cheese on garlic bread is optional. Some people love it, others don’t. We usually sprinkle some freshly grated Parmesan on about half of the slices.

Step by Step Instructions

First, preheat the air fryer to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
In the meantime, peel the garlic, then mince it or chop it really small with a knife. Add the soft butter, garlic, and Italian seasoning to a small bowl and mix well.

Cut the French baguette into slices, approximately 1 inch thick. You can cut the slices diagonally for a bigger surface if you prefer.
If you don’t like baguette or don’t have any at home, feel free to use 3 to 4 slices of French bread instead.

Generously spread the butter mixture onto the slices of French baguette or bread, all the way to the edges. Sprinkle the buttered bread with salt and pepper to taste (optional).
You can also sprinkle the garlic bread with some grated parmesan if desired.

When the air fryer is hot, add the slices of garlic bread. The pieces should not be touching. If you can’t fit all the slices into your air fryer, air fry in batches.

Cook the garlic bread at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 3-5 minutes, or until crispy to your liking. Keep an eye on the garlic – you don’t want it to burn as this can make it bitter.
Every air fryer is slightly different so the cooking time can vary.
Remove the cooked garlic bread from the air fryer and serve right away. As an Italian-American invention, it tastes great served with Italian and/or tomato-based dishes.
We always love garlic bread with spaghetti and meat sauce, lasagna, ravioli, tortellini, and all different kinds of cheesy pasta. It also tastes great as a side to large green salads.
Storage Tips
This garlic bread is best enjoyed hot and fresh. Don’t plan on making extras for leftovers because they tend to get hard over time if left on the counter or slightly soggy if left in the fridge.
If you do end up with leftovers, allow them to cool, then store them in a sealed container on the counter for up to 1 to 2 days, or in the fridge for up to 3 days.
