Move over, regular French Toast (you’re still tasty). Air fryer French toast roll-ups are a breakfast or snack that has all the classic tastes but is much more fun and dippable. And you can customize it to suit your taste!
We love the hazelnut spread and cream cheese and strawberry fillings, but the butter-cinnamon-sugar mixture is also soo good.
These roll-ups turn out golden brown and slightly crispy on the outside and soft and delicious on the inside in just 4-5 minutes in the air fryer.
Ingredients
- Sandwich bread – We use white sandwich bread. You can use whole wheat bread, but it will change the flavor slightly. Alternatively, you can also use brioche.
- Egg – One large egg or two smaller ones.
- Milk – We use whole milk, but you can also use low-fat milk or half-and-half depending on your preference.
- Vanilla extract – Optional; adds some extra flavor to the egg mixture.
- Ground cinnamon – For extra flavor.
- Filling ingredients – cream cheese, jam, hazelnut spread, fresh fruit (we like strawberries), butter-cinnamon-sugar blend, or other fillings of your choice.
Recipe Tips
- Don’t overfill the rolls or the filling may come out the ends during cooking.
- Don’t use frozen berries. Run them under cold water until thawed if you only have frozen berries on hand.
- You can use the crust for croutons or breadcrumbs, so don’t throw it out.
- Cut any fruit into small pieces so the rolls are easier to roll and close.
- Don’t let the roll-ups sit in the egg mixture, or the bread will soak up too much egg.
- Don’t overcook the roll-ups – they should be crispy on the outside, but can get too dark and dry if overcooked.
- The exact cooking time can vary depending on the bread you’re using and your air fryer.
- Serve the French toast roll-ups right away for the best taste.

Step-by-Step Instructions
First, trim the crust off the bread. Then flatten it using a rolling pin.
Next, whisk together the egg, milk, vanilla extract (if using), and ground cinnamon in a shallow bowl.
Spread a thin layer of your chosen filling along one edge of each slice of bread.
Then roll it up tightly from that side to form a log and dip it in the egg mixture. Be sure to coat all sides and the ends.
When you’re done, place the roll-up on a plate and repeat until all the roll-ups are coated in egg.
Preheat the air fryer to 375 degrees Fahrenheit (190 degrees Celsius). When it’s hot, place the roll-ups in the air fryer basket seam-side down with space between them.
Air fry for 4-5 minutes, flipping halfway, or until golden brown and lightly crispy.
Optionally, sprinkle the French toast roll-ups with cinnamon-sugar as soon as you remove them from the air fryer.
Then serve them right away as is, with maple syrup, or your favorite dipping sauce. Enjoy!
Storage Tips
These roll-ups are best hot and fresh out of the air fryer. If you have leftovers, store them in a sealed container in the fridge for up to 3-4 days.
The good news is they reheat really nicely in the air fryer. We usually reheat them at 300 degrees Fahrenheit for 2-3 minutes. That’s just enough to get the inside hot again without over-crisping the outside.
