Want to make air fryer tempeh? Tempeh in the air fryer is easy to make and marinated just how you like it!
It can be a munchable snack or used as an ingredient in other dishes – it’s up to you!

Recipe Tips/Substitutions
Before you head off to make tempeh in the air fryer, be sure to read through these recipe tips so that you achieve great results:
- Make sure to cut the tempeh into evenly sized cubes. This way they will crisp evenly.
- You can adjust the marinade/spice blend to suit your taste buds. If you don’t like spice, you can definitely skip the tabasco or siracha.
- Be gentle as you toss the uncooked tempeh in the mixing bowl with the marinade since the pieces can be a little delicate/crumbly around the edges.
- Don’t overcrowd the air fryer – this could prevent the tempeh from crisping evenly.
- Keep an eye on the tempeh towards the end of the cooking time. You want it to be crispy but not burned.

Alternatively, you can skip to the bottom of this post to find the detailed recipe card without visuals.

First, cut the tempeh into approximately 3/4 inch-sized cubes.
Then preheat the air fryer to 380 degrees Fahrenheit.

Add the tempeh cubes into a mixing bowl with the soy sauce, avocado oil, garlic powder, and sriracha/tabasco (optional).

Gently toss everything until the tempeh pieces are coated evenly.

When the air fryer is hot, add the tempeh to the air fryer basket in one even layer.

Cook the tempeh for 6-9 minutes until crispy (keep an eye on it towards the end because you don’t want it to burn).
Gently shake the air fryer basket halfway through the cooking time. The exact cooking time can vary by air fryer and tempeh brand.

Once done cooking, remove the tempeh from the air fryer and use it as an ingredient in dishes or enjoy it as a snack.
Storage Tips
You can store any leftover air-fried tempeh in a sealed container in the fridge.
It’ll get a little softer this way but it’ll last for a few days – allowing you to snack later or add it as an ingredient to a future dish.
If you want to reheat the tempeh, you could microwave it but we’d suggest reheating it in the air fryer or a pan since it’ll help draw out some of the unwanted moisture again.
