To make this fava bean recipe, you’ll need the following ingredients:

  • Fava beans – You can use canned or dry beans, but you’ll have to soak and boil the dry ones before using them.
  • Oil – We use avocado oil, but you can use olive oil, canola oil or another oil of your choice.
  • Paprika – We use regular paprika, but you can use smoked paprika if you prefer.
  • Onion powder – For extra flavor.
  • Garlic powder – For extra flavor.
  • Black pepper – Preferably freshly cracked pepper.
  • Salt – Adjust the amount to taste.
  • Maple syrup – For sweetness; alternatively you can use runny honey.
  • Cayenne pepper – For some spice.

Recipe Tips

  • If you’re using canned fava beans, rinse and drain them well. Excess moisture may affect the cooking time.
  • If you’re using dry fava beans, you’ll have to soak them and boil them before being able to use them in this recipe.
  • Feel free to adjust the spice mixture to your taste.
  • Watch the fava beans towards the end of the cooking time as they can go from crispy to burnt quickly.
  • The fava beans will crisp up more as they cool.

Once cooked, remove the beans from the air fryer and place them in a serving bowl. Allow to cool for a few minutes – this helps them to crisp up more.

Storage Tips

These roasted fava beans don’t usually last long in our house. Once done snacking, store leftovers in a sealed container on the counter for about 2 days.

We don’t recommend reheating them or they might dry out more and burn.
