Recipe Tips

Before you run off to the kitchen to make veggie tots in the air fryer, read through these recipe tips so that you know what to expect!

  • There are different kinds of frozen veggie tots that are made of different ingredients for the filling. We used cauliflower-based tots. If the ones you are using have a different main ingredients, this might influence your cooking time. (For another veggie cauliflower recipe, try out these buffalo cauliflower wings in the air fryer).
  • The air fryer you have can also affect the cooking time.
  • Most frozen veggie tots are already seasoned but you can add salt and pepper to taste when they are done cooking if you want. Avoid adding dry spices before cooking because you don’t want them to fly around in the air fryer (this can happen since we don’t add any extra oil so the spices can’t easily “stick” to the tots).
  • There is usually no need to add any extra oil to frozen veggie tots.
  • You also don’t have to defrost the veggie tots first. Just add the frozen tots to the preheated air fryer.

Add the frozen veggie tots to the preheated air fryer.

First, preheat the air fryer to 385 degrees Fahrenheit. Once the air fryer is hot, add the frozen veggie tots.

Be sure to gently shake the air fryer basket so that the veggie tots are in one layer with no overcrowding. This will help them cook and crisp evenly.

Cook the frozen veggie tots for 9-13 minutes total until fully heated through and crispy on the outside.

Shake the air fryer tray every 4 minutes for even cooking. The exact cooking time will vary depending on the brand of veggie tots and your air fryer.

When done, remove the veggie tots from the air fryer. Place them into a bowl, add salt and pepper to taste (if not already seasoned), toss the tots, and serve.

You can enjoy them with a dipping sauce or on their own! They can also make a side dish to a larger meal like frozen veggie burgers or juicy homemade hamburgers!

Storage Tips

Air-fried frozen veggie tots are best enjoyed hot and fresh. If you have any leftovers, store them in a sealed container in the fridge.

They’ll last for a few days but eat them sooner rather than later because the moisture content will make them much mushier over time.

You can reheat these cold veggie tots in the air fryer for the best chance at reviving them – but don’t expect them to be as crispy as freshly made!
