Air fryer frozen sweet potato fries are a great way to enjoy crispy fries without the work of cutting and prepping needed for homemade sweet potato fries.
They are a great alternative for those days when you’re short on time but want a filling, crispy side dish without a lot of work, or have a craving for some crispy fries and don’t want to eat out.

Recipe Tips
- The cooking time guidelines are for regular cut frozen sweet potato fries. Thicker cut fries may need a few extra minutes, while “shoestring” fries (skinnier ones) may need less time.
- You can add a small amount of oil to the fries before air frying if you like, but this is completely optional. Most brands of frozen sweet potato fries already contain some oil.
- Don’t overcrowd the air fryer. Otherwise, the hot air can’t circulate well enough, and the fries don’t end up crispy.
- We recommend adding (seasoning) salt after air frying (especially if you’re not using oil). Otherwise, the salt might just fly around in the air fryer and get burned by the heating elements.

Step-by-Step Instructions

First, preheat the air fryer to 385 degrees Fahrenheit (195 degrees Fahrenheit).
To get your frozen sweet potato fries a little crispier, you can place the frozen fries into a bowl and toss them in a little bit of oil until evenly coated. This step is completely optional.
When the air fryer is hot, add the frozen fries in one even layer. They shouldn’t overlap too much – otherwise, cook in batches.

Cook the sweet potato fries for 13-15 minutes total, or until they are fully cooked and crispy. Shake the air fryer basket every 5 minutes to help with even cooking.
Since every air fryer is different, your air cooking time may vary.

Once done, remove the sweet potato fries from the air fryer and place them in a bowl. Optional: Add in your favorite (seasoning) salt and toss the crispy fries until evenly coated.
Serve the sweet potato fries with a dipping sauce of your choice. We like Chipotle mayo, aioli, or ketchup. Enjoy!
Storage Tips
Sweet potato fries taste best when they are fresh out of the air fryer. You can store any leftovers in a sealed container in the fridge for up to 3-4 days. Due to the moisture, they’ll get a little soggy over time.
For reheating, we recommend the air fryer so they get the chance to regain some of their crisp. The microwave also works, but it won’t make them crispy again.

- seasoning salt, to taste
Instructions
- Preheat the air fryer to 385 degrees Fahrenheit (195 degrees Celsius).
- Optional: For slightly crispier fries, place the frozen fries in a bowl and toss with a little bit of oil. This step is optional since most frozen fries already contain some oil.
- When the air fryer is preheated, add the frozen sweet potato fries and give the basket a shake to settle them in one even layer.
- Air fry the sweet potato fries at 385 degrees Fahrenheit (195 degrees Celsius) for 13-15 minutes total, or until they are fully cooked and crispy on the outside. Shake the air fryer basket every 5 minutes to help with even cooking. The exact cooking time can vary depending on the thickness of your fries and your air fryer, so keep an eye on them towards the end.
- Once done, remove the sweet potato fries from the air fryer and place them in a bowl. Optional: Add your favorite (seasoning) salt and toss until the crispy fries are evenly coated.
- Serve these sweet potato fries with a dipping sauce, such as chipotle mayo, ketchup, or aioli.
Notes
- The cooking time above is for regular cut sweet potato fries. Thick-cut fries may require a few extra minutes; shoestring fries may cook faster.
- We have a 6-quart air fryer. If your air fryer is much smaller, you may have to cook the fries in two batches. Overcrowding the air fryer is not recommended because this prevents the frozen sweet potato fries from crisping evenly.
- Add salt or seasoning after air frying (especially if not using oil) to prevent the seasoning from blowing around in the air fryer.
