Made from frozen in just minutes, these soft pretzels are covered in salt and air fried to a perfect brown and softness!

Lisa was born and raised in Germany and in her opinion these air fryer frozen pretzels can actually be pretty close to homemade German pretzels!

Recipe Tips

Before making air fryer frozen soft pretzels, have a quick read through these recipe tips and considerations:

  • Soft pretzels are good with coarse salt. Often it comes in the package with the frozen pretzels, but if it doesn’t, you can use your own kosher salt. How much or how little you put, depends on your personal preference.
  • There are a number of different frozen soft pretzel brands out there. The pretzels’ size – as well as your air fryer – can affect cooking time slightly. We used SuperPretzel’s soft pretzels but there are also a few other brands that make soft pretzels.
  • Make sure to not overlap the pretzels when placing them in the air fryer as they might stick together once thawed.
  • Remember, these are soft pretzels – if you cook them too long you’ll achieve a nice brown color but the pretzels might also get too hard on the inside.
  • We also made frozen pretzel bites in the air fryer and they worked out well, too!

Step by Step Instructions

Making air fryer soft frozen soft pretzels is very easy. But if you’d like to see some visuals for how we do it, you can have a look at the photos in this section.

If you just want to skip ahead to the cooking time and temperature without visuals, you can find the detailed recipe card at the bottom of this post.

Add salt to the frozen pretzels.

First, preheat the air fryer to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

If you want to add salt to your pretzels, lightly brush them with a little bit of water.

Then sprinkle the coarse salt onto them. How much salt you put on top depends on your personal preference.

Place the frozen pretzels into the air fryer.

Once the air fryer is hot, add the frozen pretzels. There should not be any overlap so that the pretzels get a chance to heat and brown evenly without sticking together.

We can fit 4 pretzels into our air fryer but if yours is smaller, you might have to make fewer pretzels in one batch.

Cook the pretzels until they are fully heated.

Cook the frozen pretzels for 3-4 minutes until fully heated through and golden brown on the outside.

Since every air fryer cooks slightly differently, your cook time might vary a bit.

Just keep an eye on the pretzels and don’t leave them in the air fryer for too long since they are supposed to be soft pretzels.

Once done, remove the pretzels and serve them with cold butter, mustard, a cheese dip, or other condiments of your choice.

Storage Tips

We would recommend eating air fried soft pretzels as soon as possible. They just taste best when they are fresh and get harder over time.

If you do have leftovers, store them in a sealed plastic bag or container (the pretzels might get slightly soggy) or in a paper bag (the pretzel might get slightly hard) on the counter.

We like to reheat leftover pretzels in the air fryer or the toaster before consuming them.
